I love the idea that essential oils have been around for over 3000 years and are mentioned in the Bible hundreds of times. Back then there were no pharmacies, just the herbs, plant parts and spices that we refer to today as essential oils.
Some of the benefits of essential oils that are seen today are alleviate aches and pains, improve your brain function, improve digestion and boost energy, balance our hormones and boost your immunity to help fight infections, help you to have radiant skin and reduce emotional stresses along with many other beneficial uses.
You do need to be careful where you get your essential oils from. It helps if you can talk to someone who knows about essential oils and their purity and how they are processed.
Recipies for Home Use
In WI we talk about mosquitos being our state bird. It can get rough and when that happens I want to stay away from any toxic products. I have used variations of this spray and it works wonderful. At a recent football game after applying a comment was heard that "something smells good" and it wasn't the popcorn!
In an 8 oz. spray bottle add 1/2 cup of witch hazel, 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar, 40 drops total of a mixture of the following (or one or two of what you have on hand as long as it is 40 drops total) of eucalyptus, lemongrass, citronella, tea tree or rosemary.
Spray all over your body except for your mouth and eyes.
Essential Oils and Cooking
One thing about essential oils is their shelf life and potency. If I am cooking and don't have a particular fresh or dried spice on hand, I will go to my essential oils. Recipies will be coming soon.
